Grade 2 math mystery pictures
Grade 2 worksheets mix addition and subtraction to 20 and to 100 with the first times tables. The answer is the row, the letter is the column, and the shaded squares build a picture.
What grade 2 worksheets practice
- Addition within 20, for example
9 + 7. - Subtraction within 20 and with two-digit numbers to 100, for example
64 − 52. - Times tables 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 in both orders, for example
4 · 3and3 · 4. - Division with those tables and a quotient up to 10, for example
12 : 2.
The answer is always a row number (18 at most), so numbers to 100 appear in the problems, mainly in subtraction and division.
Sample problems from a worksheet
This is part of a real worksheet. The answer is the grid row, the letter next to the problem is the column, and the child shades that square.
| Problem | Answer = row | Shade square |
|---|---|---|
36 : 4 | 9 | N9 |
5 · 2 | 10 | E10 |
72 − 65 | 7 | B7 |
1 + 1 | 2 | L2 |
10 : 5 | 2 | C2 |
3 · 3 | 9 | B9 |
13 − 9 | 4 | M4 |
7 + 6 | 13 | D13 |
Which grid and picture to choose
Second graders can use all three grids: 10×10 for a short sheet, 15×15 as the usual choice and 18×18 for longer independent work.
There are 118 pictures to choose from (59 black-and-white, 59 in color). Depending on the picture, one worksheet has 22–110 problems.
Grade 2 worksheet FAQ
Do the worksheets cover all times tables?
No. Grade 2 uses only the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 tables and division with them. All tables up to 10 are on the grade 3 worksheets.
Why are answers never above 18?
The answer sets the grid row, and the largest grid has 18 rows. Numbers to 100 are practiced in the problems instead, for example 64 − 52 = 12.
Can I make sheets for a whole class?
Yes. Generate up to 60 worksheets at once, each with different problems, so nobody can copy a neighbor.
