Grade 4 math mystery pictures
Grade 4 worksheets add two-step problems. Times tables, division and subtraction to 100 stay, while plain addition within 20 is left out.
What grade 4 worksheets practice
- Two steps: multiplication or division followed by addition or subtraction, for example
4 · 7 − 12or45 : 5 + 6. - Times tables and division.
- Subtraction with two-digit numbers to 100.
Multiplication or division always comes first, so the answer is the same whether a child works left to right or follows the order of operations. Brackets come in grade 5.

Which grid and picture to choose
We recommend the 15×15 or 18×18 grid for fourth graders. Two-step problems take longer, so even a smaller picture fills a whole lesson.
There are 118 pictures to choose from (59 black-and-white, 59 in color). Depending on the picture, one worksheet has 22–110 problems.
Grade 4 worksheet FAQ
Do children need to know the order of operations?
Not for grade 4. Multiplication or division is always at the start of the problem, so working left to right is enough.
Why is there no plain addition?
Addition within 20 is below grade 4 level. It is still practiced as part of the two-step problems.
Are the worksheets good for a substitute lesson?
Yes. A worksheet needs no explanation, children can work on their own and the picture keeps them going.
