Grade 5 math mystery pictures

Grade 5 worksheets practice brackets and the order of operations together with everything from earlier grades. The picture acts as a check: a child who only works left to right shades a square outside the shape.

What grade 5 worksheets practice

• Multiplication and division before addition and subtraction, for example 5 + 3 · 4 or 40 − 6 · 5.
• Subtracting a quotient, for example 20 − 36 : 9.
• Brackets, for example (18 + 22) : 5 or (41 − 38) · 4.
• Review: two-step problems, times tables, division and subtraction to 100.

Which grid and picture to choose

Fifth graders can use any grid. The 18×18 grid gives the most problems and the most detailed picture, while 10×10 makes a short order-of-operations check.
